Fans dance and cheer as Waka Flocka Flame performs on day three of the Summer Smash Festival in Douglass Park, Sunday. It was billed as the “premiere hip-hop music festival in the Midwest.” And with good reason.

Nonetheless, Lil Boat showed up to entertain, giving a performance that I personally felt was a lot stronger than last year, but his time wasn’t over yet. We rushed back to the Lyrical xcritical Stage to see the second special guest, but Lil Yachty took the stage instead. While I was excited to see him perform after, I was confused as to why no one came out before him, and I wondered if there was something going on.

‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Appeals to Both Avid Players and Rookies in First Reactions

Remember, Baby Keem only has a handful of songs out and he’s still on the come up despite his relation to Kendrick Lamar. The crowd’s reaction to him foretells a certain future for him that includes packed-out and sold-out shows from dedicated fans (as if he’s not doing that already). Every year, the Summer Smash seems to get bigger, better, and more insane than ever before, and 2022 is definitely no exception.

    • 2022 had some curveballs thrown at the team including a detrimental storm that almost paused the entire festival, but thanks to the consistently hard-working and ride-or-die group of individuals who put this fest together, the show went on without a hitch!
    • His music has a fun and energetic vibe that instantly lifts people’s moods.
    • Before the winners are announced, see how much you know about the movies, directors and actors up for Academy Awards past and present.
    • I had seen him once already a few months back at his Lyrical xcritical performance at the Concord Music Hall, and while I felt like there was a bit more that he could’ve done at that concert, I knew it was one of his first-ever shows, so I was hoping he has brushed up by now.
    • Growing up in the early 2000s, it was damn near impossible to not be a fan of Blink 182, and trust me, most of us here at Lyrical xcritical were massive fans of the band growing up.

The annual festival attracted 90,000 attendees last year, and it’s returning with a star-studded lineup, boasting some of the biggest names in hip-hop. Chicago fan favorite Joey Purp got the action off to a start Saturday afternoon before the fest was ground to a halt by heavy rain and strong winds. Concertgoers were asked to evacuate the grounds shortly after 3 p.m. Messages were posted on the festival’s social media accounts as well as at the park on giant video screens asking attendees to “seek shelter.” Staff directed most of the crowd to the parking lots at nearby Mt. Sinai Hospital and the Douglass Park Cultural and Community Center. Despite the rise of Delta around the world during the festival, much about the event felt as safe as possible, including what appeared to be fewer people at this festival than others and that proof of vaccination and a negative COVID test was a requirement for entry . It provided a level of comfort where I could freely walk around without fighting my way through sweaty bodies and BO.

After seeing his routine, I was blown away by how far he has come in just a few short xcritical reviews. Not only was the stage bigger, the audience rowdier, and the pressure slightly higher, but he lived up to every hope that I had imagined, so I was extremely pleased with the outcome. A few weekends ago on June 17-19th, we had yet another Summer Smash for the ages. Not only did we bring out industry-leading artists from all over the world, but tens of thousands of fans gathered in Douglas Park yet again for a beautiful weekend in the greatest city on Earth! Favorite performances depend on personal tastes, but there is no denying that everyone was vibing out with every headliner late into each night.
